A Walk-Through of ICAN's V-safe Dashboard

Informed Consent Action Network (ICAN) received CDC V-safe data spanning 12/14/20 to 08/01/22.

ICAN and Aaron Siri recently won an important lawsuit giving them almost two years of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) V-safe data, which all relates to the COVID-19 vaccines.

V-safe has both predefined symptom fields or checkboxes - e.g., fever, body aches, pain, etc. - that users can select, as well as a free-form text “Other” field in which users may enter symptom details not covered by the predefined fields (e.g., chest pain, menstrual irregularities, stroke, myocarditis, etc.). ICAN only received data from predefined fields in the V-safe app, so that is what is presented on their dashboard.

This video provides a demonstration of how to use the V-safe dashboard, as well as a look at what data is presented.

ICAN’s V-safe dashboard may be directly accessed here.

For additional background, according to the CDC, “V-safe provides personalized and confidential health check-ins via text messages and web surveys so you can quickly and easily share with CDC how you, or your dependent, feel after getting a COVID-19 vaccine. This information helps CDC monitor the safety of COVID-19 vaccines in near real time.

V-safe features:

  • Enrolling is fast and easy! Sign up during the waiting period after you get any dose of COVID-19 vaccine or at any time after vaccination

  • Add a dependent and complete health check-ins on their behalf

  • Enter and report how you, or your dependent, feel after first, second, additional, and booster doses.”
